CHAMBERSBURG  Meals On Wheels

Organization

The corporation doing business as (dba) "Chambersburg Meals on Wheels" is officially named "Services for the Homebound of Franklin County, Inc." The organization involves many people, all of whom are important to the success of our mission ...

Clients

These are the people we serve — individuals with restricted mobility who are elderly, handicapped, or convalescing, and who would not be able to have a hot meal every weekday without our services. We are always glad to welcome new clients in the area we serve.

Volunteers

Without our faithful kitchen helpers, the meals would not get prepared. Without our stalwart delivery volunteers, none would get delivered. At present we have about 240 volunteers (we need more!), and most take a turn every other week, with some generously doubling up or filling in for others when needed.

Donors

Meals on Wheels operates with no government assistance in any form. Roughly 35-40% of our annual budget must come from tax-deductible donations given generously by donors in the community.

Client Administrator

Cheryl Yeager, the Client Administrator, one of our four paid employees, is responsible for every aspect of client-facing operations. She interviews, qualifies, and enrolls clients, and documents any special needs; handles all client records, billing, and accounts; plans delivery routes; and informs the Head Cook of daily meal requirements. She also helps package the meals for delivery and, in a pinch, even delivers some meals.

Head Cook

Our Head Cook, Melissa Izer, is responsible for producing hot, nutritious home-cooked meals for our clients. She oversees all kitchen operations, including ordering, storage, and inventory of food and supplies; training and direction of our volunteer kitchen helpers; timely preparation of meals; kitchen cleanup; and compliance with host church and Health Department standards and regulations.
